Rep. Val Demings, a House impeachment manager, said President Donald Trump has engaged in a “coverup” of a plan to pressure Ukraine to investigate his political rivals. Demings, D-Fla., spoke on the Senate floor during the Trump impeachment trial in support of an amendment that would require the Senate to subpoena documents from the State Department. “The State Department is at the very center of President Trump’s wrongdoing,” Demings said. The amendment would change the “organizing resolution” that establishes the rules of the trial. The House of Representatives impeached the president in December on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and removed from office, or acquitted.
