Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., spoke out on Dec. 11 in support of impeaching the president. “I do not fear this moment, or this time,” Demings said. “We only have one option. That is to hold this president accountable,” she said during the Judiciary Committee’s markup of the articles of impeachment. Citing her childhood growing up poor and as the descendent of slaves, Demings said that she is “an American dream, complete.” “Only in America can a little black girl, the daughter of a maid and a janitor growing up in the south in the 60s have such an amazing opportunity” as a lawmaker in the House. The markup comes after public impeachment hearings by both the House Judiciary and Intelligence Committees.
